On doilies

crochet doily

Another pattern I managed to follow is a chart: a lovely doily from ravelry. I used to freehand crochet only, so it’s kind of an achievement.

Apparently I have a thing for doilies.

  1. Ah I just got back into crocheting again and like you, I’ve only done freehand crocheting. I purchased a couple of patterns but the instructions seem like a foreign language to me! You’ve given me some hope! Pretty doily!

    • Indeed, this initial effort required to start reading a pattern seems huge (it took me several years!). I think the key is to start small – by choosing a project that wouldn’t be overwhelming.

  2. You are so talented! I’ve always admired handmade doilies, my grandmother could do them and I collect them where I can find them. My favorite one is about eight inches in diameter and has pansies around the perimeter. You could probably whip one up, no problem! To me, it is a total work of art!
